Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Vice President Ahsan Paracha has lauded Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directive for the accelerated development of electric vehicle charging stations. He also emphasized the crucial need to expedite the privatization of power distribution companies, arguing that inefficient power producing companies (Gencos) are a burden on the national exchequer and their immediate auction is essential. The initial auction of inefficient and loss-making Gencos generated PKR 9.5 billion for the national treasury.
Paracha urged the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply to businesses by connecting them directly to the transmission network to enhance industrial output, exports, and foreign exchange reserves. He advocated for government consultations with FPCCI officials regarding the nationwide deployment of electric vehicle infrastructure.
He further added that the swift completion of smart meters and the establishment of electric vehicle charging points across the country should be expedited. He stressed the importance of offering comprehensive support and benefits to domestic and foreign companies investing in this sector.
Finally, Paracha demanded the immediate implementation of promises related to readily available bank loans to promote energy-efficient fans, enabling middle-class citizens to reduce their electricity expenses through energy conservation measures.
