District market committees directed to curb price variation

Islamabad, October 13, 2020 (PPI-OT): National Price Monitoring Committee has directed the district market committees across the country to curb price variation effectively. The NPMC, in its meeting in Islamabad on Monday, with Adviser on Finance, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in the chair, urged all stakeholders to take drastic measures to control inflation.

The meeting directed the provincial chief secretaries to streamline the release of wheat at regular intervals. The Committee deliberated upon increase in the prices of wheat, sugar and perishable items including tomatoes, onions, potatoes and chicken and discussed corrective measures to provide relief to the end consumers.

The meeting was briefed that the total public sector procurement for wheat through government to government and Trading Corporation of Pakistan is equal to 1.8 million metric tons based on the demand estimates provided by the provinces and PASSCO. It was also stated that sufficient sugar stocks are available in the country. Adviser Finance also directed MD Utility Stores to streamline the availability of essential items to provide maximum relief to the lowest strata of the society.
