Dr Mahathir’s statement on Kashmir hailed

Srinagar, August 10, 2020 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the Chairman of Democratic Political Movement, Khawaja Firdous, has hailed the statement of former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on Kashmir wherein he urged the international community to play its role in resolving the dispute in accordance with UN resolutions.

In a statement issued in Srinagar, Khawaja Firdous said that the international community should realize the need to prevent a terrible war between two nuclear-armed neighbourly countries, Pakistan and India, in South Asia by resolving the Kashmir issue, which is a bone of contention between the two countries.

He said a lasting peace could not be established in South Asia unless the Kashmir issue was resolved in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. Khawaja Firdous strongly condemned the harassment and arrest of unarmed Kashmiri youth by Indian forces and the torture of residents during raids. He made it clear India had no right to celebrate its Independence Day in occupied Jammu and Kashmir as the territory is disputed and not a part of India.

It is worth mentioning here that Dr Mahathir Mohamad, while addressing a function in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday, expressed solidarity with the Kashmiri people and strongly condemned Indian atrocities in the occupied territory. He also asked the world community to take stern notice of the widespread human rights violations in Indian-illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
