Dr Naseem Gilani’s NIA quizzing upsets scientific fraternity

Srinagar, March 12, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the scientific fraternity of Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology has expressed concern over arbitrary quizzing of Dr Syed Naseem Gilani, senior scientist faculty of forestry of the university.

The fraternity head, Dr S A Dar in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Arbitrary summoning and quizzing of Dr Gilani amounts to harassment and mental torture of such a scientist of repute besides affecting the university academics.”

“We have already made it clear that the scientific fraternity is not opposing the enquiry conducted by National Investigation Agency (NIA) but the quizzing should be as per law and to the minimum disadvantage of the scientist and the university,” he added.

“The scientist in the past has cooperated fully with the NIA, New Delhi, and has attended three rounds of questioning starting from 8th of August, 2017 to 11th of August, 2017 and 2nd round from 24th of August, 2017 to 30th of August, 2017 and on 25th of September, 2017 at NIA headquarters, New Delhi, making it clear of having no intentions to shy away from any investigation,” the statement said.

Dr S A Dar said, the time of the scientist is very precious but his precious time is being wasted by frequently calling him to New Delhi. “The scientist is losing the opportunities in his teaching, research and other academic activities which are going to affect his career besides the academic activities of the university in a very worst manner,” he said.

The fraternity also asked Governor Satyapal Malik to intervene into the matter. It is worth mentioning here that Delhi-based NIA is targeting Dr Naseem Gilani because of being the son of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani.
