Candidates from various political parties on Sunday demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take immediate action against the Returning Officer (RO) for NA-262 Quetta, over what they described as a blatant denial of the opportunity to file nomination papers for the upcoming by-election.
In a joint press conference held at the Quetta Press Club on Sunday, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate Abdullah Durrani, Engineer Hadi Askari, and Iqbal Kakar, representing the Green Pakistan Party, expressed their concerns regarding the events of December 6, 2024.
This demand was made by Pakistan People’s Party candiate, Abdulllah Durrani, and Green Pakistan Party candidate for NA-262-Quetta, Iqbal Kakar while addressing a joint press conference at Quetta Press Club.
They claimed that while the RO had initially received nomination papers until 2:00 PM, he left his office, citing the need to offer prayers, and did not return, leaving more than 20 candidates unable to submit their papers.
The candidates strongly criticized the RO’s actions, calling them a gross irregularity. They announced their intention to file an official complaint with the ECP, urging the commission to investigate the matter and take appropriate action.
Furthermore, they called for an extension of the nomination submission period, demanding that at least two additional days be granted to aspiring candidates to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
