Elections in IOK futile exercise: Sehrai

General Official News

Srinagar, April 08, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai has said that holding elections has no meaning in a place where all basic human democratic political rights of people are trampled through military might.

Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “We have a huge investment in the shape of lakhs of human lives, billions of worth property and honour for our political birth right. Any electoral process cannot be a substitute to right to self-determination.”

The Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman said India uses this futile exercise as a means to dilute Kashmir’s disputed status and to undo the holding of a referendum as promised at the United Nations. Elections were a futile exercise unless democracy restored and allowed to flourish in real sense, he added.

Ashraf Sehrai said that the sham elections were no alternative to right to self-determination, adding, “We believe in democracy but not the one prevailing in Kashmir under presence of lakhs of Indian forces who are out to muzzle all democratic rights of people. “Here the meaning of democracy is military might .and election as a political gimmick to hoodwink the international community that the people of Kashmir enjoy Indian democracy freely,” he maintained.
