Emergency measures to be undertaken to control locusts attack in the country: Chairman NDMA

Islamabad, February 13, 2020 (PPI-OT):Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal has said that emergency measures to be taken to control the locusts attack in the parts of the Country. He stated this while chairing a high level meeting here in Islamabad on Thursday evening. Representatives from Pakistan Army, Army Aviation Command, Pakistan Air Force, Ministry of Food Security and Research and Directorate General of Plant Protection Department (PPD) also participated in the meeting.

 

Chairman NDMA has assured Ministry of Food Security and Research and Plants Protection Department (PPD) to provide all necessary resources pesticides, spray machinery and aviation support for the eradication of locusts. He has directed to start first phase of spray in affected areas of Baluchistan and Southern Punjab from the early next week. Plants Protection Department briefed the Chairman NDMA on the available resources including the availability of the chemical pesticides in the local market in Country or abroad. Chairman NDMA has said that spray would be procured and made available through import in case not available in the local market.
