Every effort being made to stifle freedom voice in IOK: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, May 19, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq while describing the situation in Kashmir as painful has said that every effort is being made on part of India to stifle the Kashmiris’ voice for freedom.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said this while addressing a seminar held at forum’s Rajbagh office in Srinagar in connection with the Martyrdom Week to pay tributes to prominent Hurriyat leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone as well as victims of Hawal massacre on their martyrdom anniversaries. He said that there had been killing and arrests and harassment of the Kashmiris in the garb of cordon and search operations and even peaceful political activities of resistance leadership were being restricted by the dint of gun. All this, he added, is being done to suppress the Kashmiris’ voice.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq hoped that Indian leadership would eventually understand that the Kashmir dispute could not be resolved through military means. He pointed out that the youth were being pushed to the wall and they were being denied political space.

Mirwaiz said that the Hurriyat forum was ready to extend its cooperation to any meaningful and result-oriented talks between Pakistan and India on Kashmir. He hoped that the new government, to be installed in New Delhi as a result of fresh elections, would revisit the past five-year policy of the previous government on Kashmir. The seminar was also addressed by Hurriyat leaders, Bilal Ghani Lone, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Masroor Abbas and a representative of Syed Ali Gilani.
