Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi holds Meeting with Mr. Mevlut Cavusoglu, Foreign Minister of Turkey

Islamabad, May 30, 2019 (PPI-OT): Today, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Mr. Mevlut Cavusoglu, in Jeddah. Both Ministers are in Jeddah for participation in the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting.

Foreign Minister Qureshi stated that Pakistan and Turkey have been brothers, friends and partners. The immutable bonds of common faith, history, and culture between the two countries are reinforced by mutual trust, understanding and support to each other on issues of importance to them.

Foreign Minister Qureshi expressed satisfaction over the growing ties between Pakistan and Turkey in the fields of defense, economy and trade. The Ministers agreed that there was a need to take steps for enhancing bilateral trade in order to realise its true potential. The Foreign Minister thanked Foreign Minister Cavusoglu for Turkish Government’s firm support on all issues of importance to Pakistan, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Both Foreign Ministers reiterated that Pakistan and Turkey, being important members of the OIC, were determined to make collective efforts in confronting Islamophobia, hatred towards Muslims, and other challenges faced by the Muslim world. There was convergence of views on the need for OIC to enhance its role on matters of security and development for the collective well-being of the Ummah. The Foreign Minister also apprised his Turkish counterpart on developments in the region including the Afghan peace process and Pakistan’s efforts for a peaceful and prosperous South Asia.
