Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister of Egypt

Islamabad, May 29, 2019 (PPI-OT): Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with Mr. Sameh Hassan Shoukry, Foreign Minister of Egypt, on the sidelines of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting, being held in Jeddah, today.

The meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere. The Foreign Minister extended felicitations to his Egyptian counterpart on the re-election of President Abdul Fattah Al Sisi and his government. The two Ministers reviewed myriad aspects of the bilateral relationship. The two sides agreed to enhance the frequency of bilateral political exchanges.

As regards economic relations, it was observed that the current level of bilateral trade had remained below potential. The Ministers agreed to actively promote trade and investment relations for the mutual benefit of both countries. It was also agreed to hold the meeting of the Joint Ministerial Commission at the earliest opportunity.

The Ministers also exchanged views on important developments in the Middle East and Gulf region. The importance of finding peaceful solutions through diplomatic means was emphasised. Foreign Minister Qureshi also expressed Pakistan’s desire to enhance its engagement with Africa, more so at a time when Egypt is the current chair of the African Union. The two Ministers agreed to remain in close contact and develop agreed next steps to upgrade bilateral cooperation in diverse fields.
