Islamabad, April 30, 2019 (PPI-OT): A Full Court meeting was held today (30.04.2019) in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Asif Saeed Khan. It was attended by Honourable Mr. Justice Gulzar Ahmed, Honourable Mr. Justice Sh. Azmat Saeed, Honourable Mr. Justice Mushir Alam, Honourable Mr. Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Honourable Mr. Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Honourable Mr. Justice Maqbool Baqar, Honourable Mr. Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik, Honourable Mr. Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Honourable Mr. Justice Faisal Arab, Honourable Mr. Justice Ijaz Ul Ahsan, Honourable Mr. Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, Honourable Mr. Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, Honourable Mr. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Honourable Mr. Justice Munib Akhtar, Honourable Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi and Honourable Mr. Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmed. Mr. Arbab Muhammad Arif, Registrar Supreme Court also attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan welcomed the newly elevated Honourable Judge of Supreme Court Mr. Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmed, and said that the addition of Honourable Judge will benefit the institution. His lordship apprised the participants that the purpose of the meeting was to take stock of the performance of the Supreme Court in terms of dispensation of justice and disposal of cases and to deliberate on the issues and matters pertaining to smooth functioning of the Court.
Deliberating on the issue of institution and disposal of cases in Supreme Court, the Full Court noted that during the period from 01.01.2019 to 26.04.2019 the Court decided 6,169 cases against the institution of 7,213 cases, leaving total pendency of 39,338 cases. The Full Court showed satisfaction over institution and disposal rate and discussed different strategies, ways and means to bring improvements in case management for effective and smooth functioning of the Court and underlined the need to make untiring efforts to improve dispensation of justice and resolved to constitute special benches at Branch Registries where there is high pendency to reduce the backlog. The Full Court also resolved to establish Supreme Court Research Centre (SCRC) to provide broad based quality research assistance to this Court.
The Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan thanked the Honourable Judges and appreciated their commitment, devotion for cause of dispensation of justice to public at large so as to redress their grievances and to provide relief to them. The meeting also discussed different administrative and judicial issues relating to the internal working of the Court.
