Funds of Rs. 1 billion released for provision of missing facilities at polling stations: Chief Secretary Sindh Major Retired Azam Suleman Khan

Karachi, July 14, 2018 (PPI-OT): Chief Secretary Sindh Major Retired Azam Suleman Khan has said that the provincial government of Sindh has released the funds of rupees one billion for the provision of missing facilities at the polling stations across the province. This he said in a meeting with a delegation of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) comprising of Kazi Asad Abid, Sarmad Ali, Javed Maher Shamsi and Ali Hassan here in Karachi on Saturday. The Secretary Information and Archives Qasi Shahid Pervez was also present in the meeting.

The Chief Secretary further stated that more than 20 thousand CCTV cameras are to be installed at 5673 sensitive polling stations from today and the funds for the same have also been released. The Chief Secretary further stated that the code of conduct for general elections is being implemented strictly. “This is for the first time in history that various political leaders and political parties have been issued notices for violating the code of conduct” added the Chief Secretary.

Major Retired Azam Suleman Khan further stated that the Sindh Government is creating an environment of peace for the transparent, fair and secure general elections in the light of directives and recommendations of the Election Commission of Pakistan. In a question, the Chief Secretary Sindh Major Retired Azam Suleman Khan while referring to his recent visits of divisional headquarters of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad has said that he himself had visited divisional headquarters to review the arrangements for the GE-2018. “I will monitor all arrangements and implementations through the Video Conferences with the concerned officers,” added the CS.

The Chief Secretary Sindh Major Retired Azam Suleman Khan also stated that there will be complete ban on display of arms during the General Elections. The Chief Secretary informed the delegation that those people who were previously involved in creating law and order situation, public disturbance or violence are being directed to submit sureties and assurances and if needed all those who will create disturbance or violence will be arrested.

The APNS delegation expressed satisfaction over the arrangements of caretaker government and while pointing out current law and order situation and stressed the need of extra efforts. On this the Chief Secretary Sindh Major Retired Azam Suleman Khan has said that the intelligence committees have also been formed and given all authorities in this regard.

The APNS delegation during the meeting raised the issue of liabilities of its member publications and asked the Sindh Government to resolve the issue, on this, the Secretary Information and Archives Qasi Shahid Pervez informed the delegation about all details and saidfurthers claims of newspapers are under process of reconciliation and verification. The Chief Secretary assured the delegation that the issues of the APNS will be resolved on priority as media is most important pillar of our country and it has to play very constructive role in holding free, fair and transparent general elections.
