Srinagar, January 19, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, and the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) have paid rich tributes to the martyrs of Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara massacres on their anniversaries.
Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Gaw Kadal was the first major massacre during Kashmiris’ ongoing freedom movement when the occupational forces opened fire at unarmed people and martyred more than 50 of them on 21st January 1990.
He said carnages at Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara remind the Kashmiris of Indian brutal occupation and aggression and it is our religious and moral duty to safeguard these exemplary sacrifices collectively and to take a pledge in this week of genocide to take the priceless struggle to its ultimate conclusion.
Ashraf Sehrai said it is the responsibility of people of Kashmir to show commitment and steadfastness towards the movement to realize the mission of the martyrs. He said that 29 years had passed since the massacre, but neither had any probe been conducted into the massacre nor the guilty nabbed and punished rather rewarded and further enhanced impunity to carry out such heinous crimes.
The JKDFP spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said massacres of Gaw Kadal, Handwara and Kupwara by the Indian forces are only tip of the iceberg. Indian occupation has been so brutal that Indian forces have turned the entire occupied Kashmir into a killing filed and they have massacred people in nook and corner of the territory.
He said Indian forces started their killing spree from Gaw Kadal and these forces are continuously killing Kashmiris for their political beliefs. These forces martyred more than 50 persons in Gaw Kadal and thought that Kashmiris will surrender their demand of right to self-determination; however time has proved that Kashmiri people will never surrender their internationally-acknowledged demand.
