Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani urged national unity and paid homage to Pakistan’s armed forces in his Independence Day message. He emphasized the need for political cohesion to guarantee the nation’s advancement, economic success, and stability.

In a statement released ahead of August 14th, Gilani commemorated the sacrifices made by Muslims during the subcontinent’s partition. He highlighted the immense loss of life, displacement, and property forfeiture endured to achieve an independent nation rooted in faith, culture, and heritage.

He attributed Pakistan’s creation to Allama Iqbal’s foresight and Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s leadership. Gilani declared independence a precious gift and its preservation a collective duty.

The Chairman commended the military, security agencies, and law enforcement for protecting the nation’s freedom and sovereignty. He also expressed support for the people of Kashmir and Palestine, reiterating Pakistan’s backing for their right to self-determination.

Gilani acknowledged the contributions of the Pakistan People’s Party, praising Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s role in the nuclear program, Benazir Bhutto’s fight for democracy, Asif Ali Zardari’s constitutional reforms, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s efforts to bolster Pakistan’s international standing.

He advocated for a robust parliamentary structure as essential for national unity. Gilani emphasized the importance of the youth and the need to invest in their development for long-term prosperity. He called on citizens to dedicate themselves to building a peaceful, democratic, and powerful Pakistan that honors the founders’ ideals.
