Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Danyal Chaudhary today lauded the government’s peaceful handling of the recent protests in the federal capital, emphasizing that no force or firearms were used to disperse demonstrators.
Speaking at a press briefing in Islamabad, Mr Chaudhary categorically denied allegations of protestor fatalities caused by government action, calling such claims ‘baseless propaganda’ propagated by the PTI.
He stated that the administration exercised “maximum restraint and patience”, ensuring that no lives were lost while thwarting what he described as attempts to exploit the unrest for political mileage.
The parliamentary secretary further disclosed that 900 protestors were detained during the operation, among whom were 37 Afghan nationals and a number of individuals on the country’s most-wanted list. He accused these elements of being mobilized to incite chaos, derailing Pakistan’s economic progress and discouraging foreign investors.
“These arrests included individuals who had been brought in specifically to destabilize the capital,” Mr Chaudhary said, noting that the protestors’ actions were aimed at tarnishing the government’s image and undermining its development agenda. He reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining public order and supporting Pakistan’s trajectory toward stability and growth.
The press conference comes amid rising tensions as political narratives surrounding the protests dominate public discourse, with the government keen to dispel what it terms “misinformation campaigns.”
