ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased the electricity rate to Rs2.80 per unit for the consumers to pacify the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The decision would put more burden on people already facing history’s worst inflation. The Power Division on Saturday notified the increase that would be applicable to commercial, industrial, general, and bulk power consumers.
According to the notification, the government has also withdrawn the subsidy given to domestic and agricultural consumers from November 1. However, the increase will not be applicable to domestic consumers consuming 300 units per month from July 1 to October 31. From July 1 to October 31, Rs 2.80 per unit will also not be applicable to agricultural consumers. According to the notification, the increase will also be applicable to Karachi Electricity’s consumers.
