Gwadar Port Can Become a Hub of Economic Power: Business Forum

Gwadar can become a major economic hub, according to Muhammad Saeed Rajput, Chairman of the Gwadar International Business Forum. In a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Rajput commended the administration’s economic and diplomatic efforts, and suggested that with focused efforts and partnerships, Gwadar could transform into a global hub for trade, investment, and regional cooperation.

“Gwadar is central to Pakistan’s economic future. We must capitalize on its potential immediately,” he announced during a gathering at the forum’s Karachi headquarters.

Rajput proposed a ten-point plan to enhance relations with Iran and transform Gwadar into a key trade center. Key proposals included designating Gwadar and Iran’s Chabahar port as “sister ports” to boost bilateral logistics and trade, and encouraging Pakistani expatriates to invest in Gwadar as their second home.

Other recommendations included streamlining permit approvals and infrastructure development, especially for high-rise buildings, and establishing a ferry service between Karachi and Gwadar, operated by the Pakistan Navy, to promote tourism and connectivity.

The forum also advised reducing cargo fees at Gwadar Port and developing fully equipped industrial zones. Rajput emphasized the creation of integrated trade routes connecting Gwadar to Central Asian markets, highlighting the importance of China and other regional partners in this project.

Senior Vice Chairman Sardar Mir Hassan Brohi and Secretary General Imran Shahzad endorsed Rajput’s proposals and renewed the forum’s commitment to national development.

“Engaging young professionals and overseas Pakistanis is crucial for building a modern Gwadar. Suitable incentives will encourage them to invest, innovate, and drive sustainable expansion,” Shahzad stated.

Rajput concluded, “It’s time for decisive action. We are ready to fully cooperate with the government to make Gwadar a beacon of prosperity.” The Gwadar International Business Forum is committed to advancing initiatives and policies based on sustainable growth, regional connectivity, and inclusive development.
