Children’s hospital fails to open OPD, emergency services

KARACHI:The patients at Sindh Government Children Hospital, North Nazimabad continue to suffer as Sindh Health Department and Poverty Eradication Initiative (PEI) have failed to resume OPD, emergency and other essential services in the hospital despite passage of two months.

The children, who required emergency care are being referred to other public and private sector hospitals since last two months as PEI management has closed the emergency services in protest after failure Sindh government to release budget of the hospital on time.

Doctors, nurses and paramedical staff working under PEI have not been paid salaries since several months by PEI due to its financial crises. More than 300 employees, including doctors, nurses, paramedical and administrative staff have not been paid salaries since several months.

The hospital management has suspended OPDs, emergency and other services since August 2020. The closure of emergency and other services have irked the patients.
