(Health): Deprived cardiologists of Karachi demands promotion

Karachi:Cardiologists working in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) cardiac facilities Friday demanded of the Administrator Karachi to call a departmental promotion committee (DPC) meeting for their promotion in next grades.

The cardiologists working in Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD) Unit I and II, Shah Faisal Cardiac Emergency Centre and Landhi Cardiac Emergency Centre has not been promoted in next grade under the four-tier formula since 2017. The KIHD, located in Karachi, opened on 2005. It is the second cardiac care facility of the metropolis after the National Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases (NICVD).

A Senior Cardiologist told PPI that the doctors hired in KIHD and cardiac emergency centre were regularized on their posts in 2012 and their promotions under four-tier formula was due in 2017, but no Departmental Promotion Committee was held since three years to promote them in higher grade as per four-tier formula.

On the other hand, doctors working at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) and other KMC hospitals had already been promoted in next grades through DPC a couple of years ago. The cardiologists demanded of Senior Director Medical and Health Services, KMC, and Administrator Karachi to call a departmental promotion committee (DPC) meeting as soon as possible to promote doctors in next grades.
