(Health): Health Minister opposes hike in drugs’ price

Karachi:Provincial Minister for Health Sindh Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho has rejected the increase made in life-saving medicines’ price by the federal government.

In her statement today, Pechuho said the federal government seemed helpless before pharmaceutical companies as it had allowed rise in drugs prices. She said rise in 94 life-saving drugs prices was injustice with people and said that the federal government should provide relief to masses from drug manufacturer companies through negotiations.

She said the federal government had badly failed to provide relief to masses in health sector and government could provide those medicines on subsidized rates. She said the authorities concerned of the federal government were hiding their incompetency on the issue of rise in drugs prices. She said the centre could control prices of life-saving medicines by giving relaxation in taxes to pharmaceutical companies.
