LARKANA:The Sindh Health and Population Welfare Department Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho has taken serious notice of PPI report appeared in the Daily Dawn and The Nation regarding deaths of a mother and one of her two newborns due to delay in the process of delivery of wife of Zainul Abedin Chandio at Shaikh Zayed Women Hospital (SZWH) within the Chandka Medical College Hospital, Larkana, on 27th March, 2022.

She has shown serious concern and desired to conduct a detailed enquiry into the matter, said the Enquiry order issued by the Director General (DG), Health Services, Sindh, Hyderabad. Hence an enquiry committee composed of Dr. Rustom Bhutto, Director, Health Services, Larkana, Prof. Dr. Shahida Shaikh, Incharge Department of Gynae and Obst, Unit-I SZWH and Dr. Syed Athar Hussain Shah (BS-19), Incharge District Health Officer, Larkana, has been constituted to probe the facts and submit a comprehensive report as well as fix the responsibility. The report must reach the DG within 24 hours for necessary action and transmission to higher authority, the letter added.

The enquiry officers reached the SZWH on Wednesday and conducted the inquiry but they were reluctant to disclose the findings. However, the people of Larkana have demanded that impartial enquiry officers should have been sent from Dow University to probe the affairs of SZWH where 134 Women Medical Officers from BPS-17 to 19 are posted but none of them allegedly perform evening and night duties and PGs are doing operations. Even postgraduate lady doctors of Chandka Medical College have never carried out evening and night rounds which are required to examine the condition of the operated patients.

Meanwhile, PPI has learnt that the Health Minister is also reaching Larkana today (Thursday) via Sukkur after inspecting Government Hospital of martyred Bhutto leaders hometown, Naundero, where also required medical facilities including shortage of specialist doctors are lacking since long which are yet to be fulfilled along with replacement of outdated diagnostic machinery and equipment.
