The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan joins the global community in celebrating the International Day of University Sports (IDUS).

According to a statement issued on Friday, on International University Sports Federation (FISU) celebrates IDUS on 20th September every year from 2016 as officially proclaimed by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organisation.

IDUS is a platform for universities worldwide to foster a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and well-being among university students. HEC is an affiliate member of FISU through Pakistan University Sports Board and is committed to promoting university sports, physical activity, and healthy lifestyle among university students across Pakistan.

Pakistani universities are encouraged to participate in IDUS activities and organize events that highlight the benefits of sports for students’ physical and mental health. By marking these celebrations, the aim is to inspire students to embrace sports and physical activities as an integral part of their university experience.

In his message on the occasion, Chairman HEC Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed said that students can develop essential skills such as leadership, teamwork, discipline, and resilience by engaging in sports and physical activities. He further said, “we are committed to establishing university sports movement across the country by emphasizing on importance of sports and physical activities during student life and afterwards.

Executive Director HEC Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum said that HEC partners with FISU in line with its vision of creating a vibrant and inclusive university ecosystem according to global standards. Through IDUS and other allied activities, HEC is working on acquiring a sustainable model to promote university sports and develop aspiring players.

In-charge Sports and Co-curricular Activities Division, HEC Mr. Javed Ali Memon said that the university sports play a vital role in promoting a healthy campus environment and fostering a sense of community among students. FISU provides a valuable platform to university students to excel in their favourite sports, he added.
