ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday directed the PTI Chairman Imran Khan to resubmit his ‘well-considered’ response within the next seven days in the contempt of court case initiated against him for his controversial remarks against a female Additional Session Judge of the federal capital.

A five-member IHC bench comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, and Justice Babar Sattar heard the case.

In his written response to the IHC’s show-cause notice in the contempt case submitted on Tuesday, the PTI Chairman did not apologize for his controversial remarks against the Additional Sessions Judge of Islamabad, Zeba Chaudhry. He, however, offered to withdraw his remarks “if they were inappropriate.”

At the onset of hearing on Wednesday, Chief Justice Athar Minallah said that he was ‘disappointed’ by the response of Imran Khan in the case. He asked Imran Khan to review his response and submit it again. The court ordered that the response can be submitted through the counsel of PTI Chairman and adjourned the hearing till September 8.

Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry had approved a two-day physical remand of Imran Khan’s chief of staff, Shahbaz Gill in a sedition case. Later, while addressing a rally in Islamabad, Imran Khan had passed controversial remarks against the female judge. The decision to initiate contempt proceedings against Imran Khan was taken by Justice Aamer Farooq while hearing a petition challenging Gill’s police remand.
