ISLAMABAD:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed a defamation case against a lawyer and human rights activist Imaan Zainab Hazir Mazari, who is the daughter of PTI leader Dr Shireen Mazari, after she tendered an “unconditional” apology in the court.

An FIR was registered against Imaan Mazari at Ramna Police Station of Islamabad under PPC Sections 138 (Abetment of act of insubordination by soldier) and 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief).

During the hearing, the IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah noted that since Imaan Mazari had tendered “unconditional” apology and showed regret on her remarks against the institutions, there was no need for an FIR. The court also quashed the FIR.

The Chief Justice also noted that Imaan Mazari had also assured that she would refrain from passing derogatory statements in the future, thus there was no need to proceed the matter further. During the hearing, Imaan Mazari, who is also the member of Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHBA) along with her lawyer Zainab Janjua was present in the court.

Imaan Mazari had issued derogatory remarks against the top security institution when her mother Dr Shireen Mazari was picked up and detained for some hours by the anti-corruption department Punjab in a case related to the encroachment of a piece of land in District Rajanpur. It was said in the FIR that Imaan Mazari abused the senior military leadership of the Pakistan Army and her derogatory statements are highly disparaging.
