IIOJK accounts for 36% UAPA cases registered in India

Srinagar, September 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):As many as 287 cases were registered under the black law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir during 2020. The data released by India’s National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), shows that IIOJK topped the chart in terms of cases registered under the UAPA last year with the occupied territory alone accounting for 36 percent of the total cases registered.

The data reveals that out of 796 cases registered under the draconian law in different states and Union Territories of India and occupied Jammu and Kashmir, 287 were alone registered in different police stations of IIOJK in 2020.

IIOJK is followed by Manipur where 196 cases were registered. As per the data, 86 cases were registered under UAPA in Jharkhand, 76 in Assam, 72 in Uttar Pradesh, 30 in Bihar, 19 in Punjab, 18 in Kerala, 10 in Meghalya, six in Delhi, four in Madhya Pradesh, three each in Arunachal Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Tamil Nadu, two each in Haryana, Nagaland and Tripura and one each in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and West Bengal.
