Imposition of ban on JI in IOK condemned

Srinagar, March 02, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leaders and organizations have strongly condemned the imposition of ban on Jamaat-e-Islami of the territory by the Indian government, terming the action as unethical and unconstitutional.

The Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik in a statement issued in Srinagar denounced in strong terms the arbitrary decision of the Indian Government of banning Jamaat-e-Islami after a crackdown on its cadres and rampant arrests. It said Jamaat-e-Islami has been running many schools and educational institutions across the valley as a socio-religious organisation for decades. The JRL said that the Kashmiris would collectively resist any assault on Articles 370 and 35-A of the Indian Constitution that grant special status and rights to Jammu and Kashmir and its people.

Hurriyat leaders and organizations including Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Shabbir Ahmed Dar, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema, Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami, High Court Bar Association, Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith and Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies in their statements said Jamaat is the most vibrant organization and known for its socio-religious and humanitarian work across the occupied territory. They termed the ban on the Jamaat as an attack on the religious sentiments of the people of occupied Kashmir.

The Jamaat-e-Islami in a statement in Srinagar said that it will move to court to challenge the ban. After arresting hundreds of leaders and activists of the Jamaat, the occupation authorities have sealed several properties belonging to the organization including offices and the schools being run under its supervision.

An Amritsar-based Sikh organization, Dal Khalsa, in a statement issued in Jalandhar urged the United Nations to intervene and end hostilities between the two nuclear countries India and Pakistan to save the region from impeding threat of war. It urged the World Body to convene a special session of the General Assembly on Kashmir dispute for its permanent settlement.

Meanwhile, at least nine people including two women were killed and 34 others injured in two separate road mishaps in Udhampur and Kishtwar areas of occupied Kashmir. The Srinagar-Jammu highway – the only surface link of the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the world – was closed for traffic, today, after fresh landslides near Pantiyal in Ramban district of Jammu. Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the highway following the landslides. The weatherman has predicted moderate rain in plains and snow in higher reaches of the occupied territory till Sunday evening.
