Imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke with his sons, Qasim and Sulaiman, for over an hour, marking the first such communication in months. This conversation took place during a court appearance at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail in the Toshakhana-II case. Khan also confirmed he now has access to newspapers and television.
Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, revealed outside the prison on Saturday that while her nephews maintain regular contact with the family, their attempts to visit their father are facing bureaucratic obstacles. One son’s NICOP (National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis) is lost, and the other’s renewal is delayed. Aleema alleged authorities are deliberately obstructing their applications, falsely claiming non-receipt.
A representative of Jemima Khan, the former Prime Minister’s ex-wife and mother of his sons, will reportedly visit the Pakistani embassy on Monday to address the visa issues. Aleema emphasized that Khan has not discouraged his sons from visiting, citing their recent interview where they expressed willingness to come even if it meant arrest.
Aleema hinted at potential protests, mentioning rumors of roadblocks on August 5, but deferred confirmation to party officials. She reaffirmed the family’s unwavering support for Khan’s movement. She also criticized the imbalance in legal representation, noting that while numerous prosecution lawyers are allowed in court, the defense faces restrictions. She mentioned only one defense lawyer was permitted for two hearings on Saturday, stressing the need for collaborative legal efforts.
Finally, Aleema revealed the possibility of her own imminent arrest, stating warrants have been issued. Undeterred, she expressed faith and a lack of fear regarding potential legal action, indicating a return to Adiala Jail on Tuesday.
