India grilled for using force on worshipers

Srinagar, August 23, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has lashed out at the Indian authorities for using force on congregational Eid prayers in Srinagar and other parts of the territory on Eid day. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar termed the firing of pellets and teargas shells by the Indian troops on worshipers at Eidgah in Srinagar and elsewhere a total disrespect to the Muslim festivals. He described the forces’ action as shameful and inhuman.

The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League at a meeting in Srinagar also condemned the use of brute force on worshippers. The designated Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasirul Islam in a statement said, the people of Jammu and Kashmir celebrate Eid in an atmosphere where their children are killed by the Indian forces, uninterruptedly.

People defying curfew-like restrictions came out of their houses and staged protests in Kishtwar district of Jammu region. They raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans. Meanwhile, three police personnel including an officer were killed in a series of attacks in South Kashmir, yesterday. Unknown men killed an Inspector and a constable in Pulwama and one constable in Kulgam districts. An assistant sub-inspector escaped bid on his life when unknown armed men opened fire on him in Kellar area of Shopian.

An Indian soldier was injured in an attack during a cordon and search operation in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. Indian army confirmed soldier Gursay Singh suffered bullet injuries and was shifted to a military hospital for treatment. On the other hand, Satya Pal Malik, today, took oath as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir in Srinagar. He was administered the oath by Chief Justice of Kashmir High Court Gita Mittal.
