Srinagar, August 31, 2018 (PPI-OT): Supreme Court of India, today, adjourned the hearing in petitions seeking abrogation of Article 35A of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees special rights and privileges to the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir and bars non-Kashmiris from buying property in the territory.
The petitions came up for the hearing, today, in the apex court which adjourned the case till January 2019. The case will now be heard in the 2nd week of January. Meanwhile, resentment is brewing in occupied Kashmir against the BJP-led Indian government’s designs to abrogate the Article 35-A by using the judiciary to pave way for settling Indian citizens hence changing the demographic composition of the territory.
Complete shutdown is being observed on the second consecutive day, today, across occupied Kashmir to register protest against India’s nefarious designs to change the Muslim majority in occupied Kashmir into minority. Call for the shutdown has been given by the Joint Resistance Leadership comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik and supported by High Court Bar Association, transporters and traders’ bodies. All shops, business establishments and educational institutions are closed in Srinagar and other areas while public transport is off the road.
The occupation authorities continue to impose restrictions on the movement of people in Srinagar and other areas by deploying Indian troops and police personnel in strength to prevent people from staging anti-India demonstrations. Rail service between Baramulla and Bannihal towns remains suspended for the second consecutive day.
