Infant death rate come down in Thar

Karachi, January 27, 2019 (PPI-OT): The relief work and health services in Tharparkar has borne better results in the sense that infant death has rate has come down considerably. Out of 110 children brought in gasping/critical condition to different government hospitals at district and Taluka level, only one child died whereas 37 were discharged after giving them necessary medical treatment and health cover.

This has been stated in a daily report, Deputy Commissioner Tharparkar Asif Jameel has submitted to Sindh Chief Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday.

The report says 73 children are under treatment at the hospitals. Moreover, 546 children were also treated under OPD services extended by health facilities of Tharparkar under the administration of Health Department, where as 434 children were also treated in OPD of 31 BHUs and 18 Government Dispensaries under the administrative control of PPHI in district Tharparkar.

The death of the child reported by Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital Mithi was attributed to Septicaemia. The deceased child was four and half month Tanweer son of Partab of Mithi Town. His weight was 3.5 kg and was admitted in Civil Hospital Mithi on Jan 23, 2019. Necessary treatment as per protocol was given to him and all possible efforts were made by the doctors, but the child could not survive and expired on 26-01-2019.

VETERINARY SUPPORT- The Livestock Department camps are operational in eight villages of different talukas. Four camps were established in Islamkot where as one each was set up at Mithi, Diplo, Chachro and Nangarparkar. 51 animals were treated whereas 2939 animals were vaccinated and 247 also drenched in the said villages. Till date, Livestock Department has treated 28,145 animals whereas 1,854,919 animals have been vaccinated and 198,035 animals have been drenched.

FODDER – Government’s initiative of distributing fodder to livestock owners is going on in four Union Councils of Taluka Islamkot. 4298cattle owners have been provided fodder which includes 50 kg Vanda Feed and 25 kg Rice Polish. He further added that 25 UCs have been identified for distribution of fodder in next phase for which survey would be started by Thar Foundation- the entity engaged by Livestock Department for conducting fodder distribution activity in a fair and transparent manner.

RELIEF WORK- Free wheat relief activities are in progress across the district. On Thursday 3258 families were provided wheat under Phase-III. Moreover, 22 families of Phase-II also collected their 50 kg wheat bags. Three families who had not collected wheat bag of Phase-I also approached their respective sentinel point and collected wheat bags. Till date, 247,409 families in Phase-I, 252,415 families in Phase-II and 141,438 families in Phase-III have received wheat bags

FAMILY PLANNING AWARENESS CAMPAIGN-The Population Welfare Department’s camps set up for awareness/ tubal ligation/Jadelle contraceptive procedures in six villages and held awareness/ family planning sessions with 116 clients. Moreover; one woman also underwent Jadelle procedure.

RATION BAGS- 3rd Phase of Ration Bags to pregnant and lactating women has also started from 26.01.2019. 123 pregnant and lactating women were provided Ration Bags at their doorsteps. He said that two phases of ration bags distribution have already been completed during which 103,292 Ration bags were distributed.
