Info Minister urges world not to leave Afghanistan alone in critical juncture

Islamabad, September 11, 2021 (PPI-OT):Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain has urged the world community not to leave Afghanistan alone in this critical juncture for durable peace in the region. In an interview with Cuban news agency Prensa Latina, the Minister said Pakistan cannot leave the Afghan people alone and it is in the interest of the world that Afghanistan should be fully supported.

Quoting reference of Pakistan support to the world community after the incident of 9/11, he said despite our weak economy, we hosted about 5 million Afghan refugees for many years. The Minister said in return, instead of helping Pakistan, economic sanctions were imposed on Pakistan through the Pressler Amendment. During this period, we provided all possible assistance to Afghanistan.

He said in 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019, we repeatedly said that a political solution should be pursued in Afghanistan instead of a military solution. He said unfortunately Pakistan was ignored and its voice was not heard and now we are facing difficult situation again. Fawad Chaudhry expressed hope that the current situation in Afghanistan will become an opportunity for stability in Afghanistan.
