The Global Rail Conference and Exhibition, currently underway in Abu Dhabi, has emerged as a pivotal platform for shaping the future of rail and infrastructure worldwide.
Led by Bilal Azhar Kayani, Pakistan’s Minister of State for Finance and Railways, the event has attracted transport ministers, policymakers, and industry leaders from across the globe.
Kayani, addressing a high-level Ministerial Panel Discussion on “Building Connected Nations: The Role of Transport and Infrastructure in Sustainable Development,” stressed the indispensable role of modern transport systems in fostering economic prosperity. He asserted that robust connectivity not only catalyzes growth and job creation but also fortifies regional integration. He highlighted Pakistan’s strides in infrastructure, notably the construction of an extensive motorway network enhancing inter-provincial links and boosting freight transit nationwide.
Further, he articulated Pakistan’s strategic vision to transform its railway sector into a pillar of national transport that is efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly. Special focus was paid to the upgrade of major railway corridors-ML-1 and ML-3-considered vital for enhancing regional trade and aligning the national rail system with global standards.
On the sidelines, Kayani engaged with international stakeholders to explore joint ventures in rail and infrastructure. His meeting with Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, focused on potential collaborations in freight logistics, technology exchange, and network development. Additionally, he explored regional rail innovations by visiting the exhibition stalls of Etihad Rail and Hafeet Rail.
