A Senate committee has intervened to resolve critical issues, including disputes over land acquisition, local community complaints, and environmental worries, that are currently stalling the high-profile Gwadar Shipyard Development Project.
The Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production, chaired by Senator Mohammad Abdul Qadir, convened on Thursday to scrutinize the impediments delaying the strategic maritime facility. The session included senators, government officials, and key local representatives, such as MPA Gwadar Moulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch, who participated remotely.
Officials from the Ministry of Defence Production and the Balochistan administration briefed the panel on the obstacles confronting the shipyard’s development. They detailed the concerns of the local populace and presented various options and feasibility studies for moving forward.
Following extensive deliberations, the committee announced a decisive next step: to hold follow-up meetings directly in Gwadar and Quetta. The Chief Minister of Balochistan, along with all relevant stakeholders, will be invited to these sessions to collaboratively find a resolution to the outstanding matters.
Committee Chairman Senator Abdul Qadir reiterated the project’s strategic importance, stressing that the establishment of the shipyard is expected to yield significant economic advantages for both the region’s inhabitants and the nation as a whole. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks.
