Inhuman treatment to detainees denounced

Srinagar, January 15, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, has condemned the inhuman treatment meted out to the Kashmiri political prisoners lodged in different jails of the territory and India.

Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in a statement issued in Srinagar cited the relatives of the inmates and said that the Kashmiri detainees were harassed and deprived of medical facilities. He termed the prejudiced attitude of jail authorities against the detainees as blatant violation of human rights.

The Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, talking to a group of religious scholars at his office in Srinagar stressed the need for creating further unity among different segments of the society to frustrate the designs of anti-movement elements. The Mirwaiz said that the Ulema and Imams of Masajid had a great role in constructing a better society.

Meanwhile, Shopian remained shut for the third straight day, today, to mourn the killing of two youth, Zeenat-ul-Islam and Shakeel Ahmed Dar, by Indian troops in Yaripora area of neighbouring Kulgam district on Saturday. All shops and other business establishments were closed while a skeletal movement of traffic was witnessed on the roads. Internet continued to remain suspended in Shopian district.

In yet another case of a minor’s detention, Indian police arrested a juvenile from Shopian in violation of Juvenile Justice Act. This is the third such arrest in 14 days. Shah Faisal, the first Kashmiri who topped Indian Administrative Service examination in 2009 in a media interview in Srinagar said, people of Jammu and Kashmir do not see their future with India because of Kashmir’s historical background. Faisal who resigned from Indian bureaucracy a few days ago said that the killing of people on day-to-day basis in the occupied territory led him to quit the job.

Speakers at a seminar in Islamabad, today, paid glowing tributes to the illegally detained senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, for his unwavering commitment to the Kashmir cause. The speakers included Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, Maulani Ghulam Nabi Nowsheri, Syed Abdullah Gilani, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, Shaikh Tajammul-ul-Islam, Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Syed Faiz Naqashbandi, Syed Yousuf Naseem, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Dr Syed Nazir Gilani, Rafiq Ahmed Dar, Sardar Usman Attique, Dr Khalid Mehmood, Altaf Ahmed Butt and Altaf Hussain Wani.
