To prevent traffic accidents, the district administration has ordered emergency road safety measures, foremost among them being to ensure 100% installation of reflectors on the back of all trolleys during the current sugarcane season.
These directives were issued by Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar Bhindar during an Accident Review Committee meeting today. The Deputy Commissioner ordered a complete review of unclear signboards and other obstructions on highways.
Further instructions included ordering the traffic police to strictly enforce helmet use among motorcyclists. The XEN Highways was tasked with the reconstruction of the Gojra Road Bypass Chowk, while other relevant officers were directed to restore non-functional traffic signals at intersections across the city.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Traffic Police, Highways Department, National Highway Authority, RTA Secretary, District Council, Municipal Committee, and local sugar mills, reflecting a multi-departmental approach to the issue.
Mr. Bhindar emphasized that citizens should be made aware of traffic laws and said that all necessary measures to improve road safety should be implemented immediately.
In a separate meeting, the Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the performance of Price Control Magistrates from the previous day. Additionally, he reviewed the progress of revenue officers on the PLUS project and was briefed on the ongoing anti-smog and anti-dengue campaigns in the district.
