KARACHI:Caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (rtd) Maqbool Baqar Wednesday directed district administration and the Bureau of Supply and Prices to control artificial price hikes in the markets by streamlining the price controlling system.

The CM has told the administration and the concerned officers to ensure proper price management in the market and he would make surprise visits to the market to check the price lists, prices, and even quality of the commodities. The CM was assisted by Chairman P and D Shakeel Mangnijo, PSCM Hassan Naqvi, and Secretary Finance Kazim Jatoi.

In this regard, a meeting was held through video link with Federal Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar which was also attended by the provincial ministers for Finance also attended the meeting. The meeting decided that the ongoing crackdown against the hoarders of sugar, urea, wheat, and other commodities would be accelerated further.

The meeting also decided that the operation against smugglers of commodities, cloth, petrol, diesel, and other items would continue to stabilize market positions.

The CM said that his government has already launched an intelligence-based operation against smugglers and has seized cloth and sugar from Karachi, and weapons in Ghotki. He added that not only the smugglers or illegal traders have been booked but punitive actions have been taken against them.

The CM told the meeting that the provincial government has developed the best health facilities where people from other provinces also visit for their treatment. “I am personally visiting hospitals and educational institutions to improve their performance,” he said.

Federal Finance Minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar appreciated the Sindh govt for running good health facilities.

The CM said that he was also visiting ongoing development works even in the rural areas. He added that he visited under-construction houses for the flood-affected people and under-construction roads in Sehwan. The purpose of the visit was to accelerate the ongoing work and ensure their quality.
