The contentious issue of India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty has been formally raised in the British House of Lords, it was revealed during a high-level meeting in Islamabad today between a visiting UK delegation and Acting President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

Lord Shafaq Mohammad, a Member of the British House of Lords, informed the Acting President that he had brought the critical water treaty matter to the attention of the upper house of the UK Parliament.

The discussion took place as Lord Shafaq, accompanied by former Member of the European Parliament Barrister Tanveer Hussain and Chaudhary Mehboob Hussain, called on the Acting President.

During their interaction, the delegates also conferred on matters pertinent to the Pakistani community in the United Kingdom and the prevailing situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations in the flood-affected areas of AJK were also a key point of conversation.

Acting President Gilani lauded the delegation’s commitment to highlighting issues of national concern on international platforms. He specifically commended their continued support for the Pakistani community living abroad.
