International think-tank asks India to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir

Washington, August 10, 2020 (PPI-OT): International think-tank, International Crisis Group ICG) has asked India to rethink its approach to Kashmir and suggested restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir as a way to calm down tensions. The Modi-led fascist Indian government has repealed the special status of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir and divided it into two union territories on August 5, last year.

The Modi government had announced in Parliament on August 5 and 6 that the UT status of J and K is not going to be permanent; its statehood would be restored as and when the situation became normal. The ICG has also urged New Delhi to release politicians still in detention and allow political activities to resume. New Delhi should also take steps to curb abuses by its forces.

Throughout the report, it has warned that the Pak-India conflict may escalate if it is not dialed down on the Line of Control and also until both the countries tone down their rhetoric. But a closer look and study of the report lays greater blame on New Delhi for what it calls unstable conditions.
