Int’l Women’s Day to be observed as Black Day in IOK

Srinagar, March 07, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Kashmir Tehreek-e-Khawateen has said that the International Women’s Day will be observed as Black Day. Kashmir Tehreek-e-Khawateen Chairperson, Zamrooda Habib, in a statement issued in Srinagar said the day is meant to celebrate social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women but the women in Jammu and Kashmir have nothing to celebrate amid presence of bulk of Indian forces.

“World is talking about the empowerment of women and we are facing the humiliation every day. Our dear ones are killed now and then. We are the worst sufferers and deeply affected by the massive presence of Indian troops in the occupied territory,” she said. Violence against women cannot be separated from the political situation of the place and in Kashmir the physical and mental violence against women is politically designed, Zamrooda added.

Zamrooda Habib expressed deep concern over the dowry demand and domestic violence against women in Kashmir. She said that increasing number of the cases of Domestic violence is alarming and unfortunate and against the principles of Islam and humanity. She appealed to the women of Kashmir to raise the voice against every kind of violence committed upon them.
