IOK Bar moves court against fake encounter killings

Srinagar, February 28, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the High Court Bar Association has filed a petition in the High Court seeking action against Indian forces’ personnel involved in two fake encounters, carried out by Indian troops in Srinagar and Kupwara in 2016. The lawyers’ body in its petition while referring to various newspaper reports proved that Indian troops had killed five innocent youth in the name of militants in Chak Dragmulla area of Kupwara district on May 21, 2016. The troops had also destroyed some houses in the so-called encounter.

As per the petition, the local residents had delayed the burial of the slain youth and kept the bodies at a seminary for the night, contesting the forces’ claim that the killed were militants and, instead, averred that the encounter was a fake and staged one. Regarding the killing of two youth at Sarai Bala in Srinagar on May 23, 2016, the landlady in whose house the youth were residing on rent, had contested the claim of the police by stating that “they were not militants but students who could speak in Kashmiri and only carried books and clothes with them.” Interestingly, the court dismissed the petition without any sound reason.
