IOK journalists victim of Modi regime, puppet media houses

Srinagar, March 04, 2020 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, journalist fraternity is facing the worst time, especially in the wake of the revocation of Kashmir’s special status by India’s Modi government in August, last year. As some local newspapers have become mouthpiece of the BJP led Indian government, the upright journalists in Kashmir are a special target both of the Indian government and its puppet media houses, a report citing some Kashmiri journalists said.

Most of the journalists have been fired from jobs by local media owners and those who are working are paid extremely less, they added. Apart from getting jobless, the authorities are making sure to curtail their functioning by calling them to police stations and bracketing journalism with terrorism, the report added.

“This induces a threat which helps the occupation regime to choke voices emanating from Kashmir. The gag on internet has further compounded the problem. News websites which have emerged as unbiased source of information in previous years have to suffer as well,” the report said, suggesting that time was ripe that world should wake up to the plight of Kashmiri journalists who were on the verge of extinction.
