Srinagar, March 12, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Human Rights Commission has sought a report on the killing of a civilian during a cordon and search operation by Indian troops at Babagund in Handwara area of Kupwara district in the last week of February, 2019. The commission sought the report on the killing of Waseem Ahmed from Commissioner Secretary Home, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Director General of Police, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara and Senior Superintendent of Police, Kupwara.
The Commission also directed the officials to file a report on the damages caused to nearly a dozen residential houses during a military operation at Babagund which began on February 28 and lasted for more than 72 hours. The notice came in response to a petition moved by human rights activist, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo.
The petitioner pleaded that the killed civilian was a 10th class student and was shot to death by Indian troops without any justification. The petition sought inquiry into his killing and pleaded for compensation to the tune of 50 lakh to the house owners. Human Rights Commission Chairman Justice (retired) Bilal Nazki directed the officers to file report by April 04.
