IOK traders forced to leave shops, accommodations in India

Srinagar, February 19, 2019 (PPI-OT): Over hundred traders from Kashmir Valley have been forced to close their shops in Indian state of Haryana. A number of callers told media men in Srinagar that the owners of their rented accommodations had asked them to vacate the facilities at Ramgarh in Panchkula district of the state, saying that they had been continuously pressurized by the locals not to allow Kashmiris to stay there.

“We have been receiving continuous threats and we were asked to vacate,” Zahoor Ahmad Dar, a trader from Awoora Kupwara said. “We have left our entire goods there,” he said. Accompanied by others, he said, “We are now putting up in local Masjids.”

He said that all the traders from Kashmir visited the local police station, seeking help. “But no help was provided to us,” he said. “We fear for our lives and government should ensure the safety of our person and goods.”

Meanwhile, more than 300 Kashmiri students studying inside India are returning home after facing attacks and threats from Hindu goons. The students who are returning home in various groups were putting up at private rented accommodations in Dehradun, Haryana and other places.

“The students are leaving from Dehradun, Haryana, Jalandar and Jaipur as we are not feeling secure there. We were harassed by mobs who also threatened our landlords for accommodating us at their rented accommodations,” said one of the students who reached Jammu along with other 50 students. The students are putting up at Makkah Masjid in Jammu.
