KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Irrigation Department Jam Khan Shoro said Wednesday that IRSA was still supplying less water share to the barrages of Sindh which was an open violation of 1991 Water Accord that had further created severe water shortage in the province.
This he said in a statement issued by him here on today. Shoro said that Sindh province was bearing current water shortage by itself and releasing more water to Balochistan province. He maintained that maximum water was being supplied to Balochistan province from Desert Pit Feeder at Sukkur Barrage but due to less water supply by IRSA in the Sukkur and Guddu barrages, the NW Canal, Warah and Dadu Canals were being affected.
He further said that pond level was not maintained at Sukkur Barrage by IRSA so far and the water shortage had worsened and if the pond level would be maintained in the Sukkur Barrage, then the water supply in the canals of Right Bank would be continued. The minister demanded of IRSA authorities to ensure water supply to the barrages of the province as per the water accord of 1991 so that the emerging water crisis in Sindh and Balochistan provinces could be overcome.
