The Islamabad district administration has finalized preparations for sanitation and waste disposal during the Eid-ul-Azha, ensuring a comprehensive plan to handle animal waste across the capital.
Deputy Commissioner Islamabad on Thursday visited designated dumping points set up for the safe disposal of animal remains and briefed the media regarding the cleanliness operations.
As in previous years, the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), and the district administration have developed a joint sanitation plan.
This year, 107 designated dumping points have been established across 55 locations in the city. A total of 200,000 biodegradable bags will be distributed – doubling last year’s number-to households and union councils to assist citizens in the proper disposal of animal waste.
Over 375 vehicles will be deployed throughout Islamabad for lifting offal, and more than 2,700 sanitation staff will be on duty during the Eid holidays.
A control room will remain operational at Safe City Headquarters during all three days of Eid. Citizens have been advised to contact the control room if a cleanup team fails to arrive within 4 to 6 hours of waste being reported.
Monitoring of all areas will also be conducted through third-party assistance to ensure cleanliness. Authorities have urged residents to use the provided biodegradable bags to maintain hygiene in the city.
A systematic route plan has been implemented, mapping which vehicles will collect offal from which areas. Cleanup teams will commence operations from 10:00 am on the first day of Eid, and residents are encouraged to report any unattended waste by the evening.
Separate sanitation systems have been set up for areas including Rawat, Tarnol, and Nilore, and special washing arrangements have been made at collective slaughter points.
So far, 55 individuals have been apprehended for illegally selling animals along roadsides. The district administration reiterated that the sale of animals at intersections and highways goes against Islamabad’s civic norms.
