Srinagar, July 02, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed in Islamabad town to commemorate the first death anniversary of freedom activist Bashir Ahmad Wani. Bashir Wani was martyred by the Indian troops during a cordon and search operation in Dialgam area of the district on 1st of July, last year. Two civilians including a woman-were also killed after the troops had opened fire on the protesters who were trying to help Bashir and his associate escape.
On Sunday, at Wani’s native village –Soaf Shali in Kokernag- the mosques loudspeakers were blaring with pro-freedom slogans and songs while people from different areas thronged the village to pay their respects. Entire village was decorated with Pakistani flags. All shops and other commercial establishments remained close while traffic was thin in Kokernag, Achabal and Dialgam areas of the district.
