RIYADH: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Monday it’s not just about the provision of justice but it’s about the country’s survival now.

In a statement on Twitter, Sheikh Rashid said today it would be decided whether democracy would prevail or it would be diminished. He underscored that the matter [Supreme Court’s decision to hold elections in Punjab] was not confined to the provision of justice anymore, but it would determine the fate of the country. He said a decision had been given and the nation stood behind the Supreme Court.

Sheikh Rashid criticized the coalition government, saying the ruling body was trying to escape elections and therefore the cabinet in Pakistan created a new spectacle every day.

He said the PDM-led government was scared of being defeated. The court ordered that elections should be held and it had not made it binding on anyone to cast vote for some specific party or person.

Sheikh Rashid is currently in Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. He said he would return to Pakistan in two or three days and hold a press conference.
