Jameel Yusuf for friendly and be facilitator in resolving environmental issues: Addressing the conference and 15th excellence award

Karachi, July 18, 2018 (PPI-OT): Sindh Caretaker Minister for Environment, Law and Information Jameel Yusuf has urged upon the officials of Environment Department to adopt a friendly approach and be a facilitator in resolving issues with the cooperation of all the industrial associations, chambers and NGOs to strengthen and support their cause. This he observed while addressing at “Annual Conference on Environment- 2018” Climate Change and Waste, Challenges, Opportunities and Threats in connection with the 15th Annual Environment and Excellence Award 2018” Organized by National Forum for Environment Health (NFFE and H) held at a local hotel here.

The Minister Environment Jameel Yusuf while congratulated to NFFEH and all recipients of 58 industrial environmental and civil society representatives has said that civil society and all stake holders don’t get any respite from phenomena of ambient air, noise and water pollution as these issues have been becoming adverse every passing day.

No regulatory steps to save the situation, adding that in the back drop the provincial Environment Department and EPA have an important role to play to safeguard the physical environment timely, regularly, disciplinary, penal action. No doubt the environmental laws, rules and regulations should be duly implemented at the Provincial level to reverse the ever-worsening phenomena of different forms of pollution.

The Minister Climate Change Jameel Yusuf has further said that climate change Department has been established at the both Provincial and Federal level to do the necessary inter – provincial and international level coordination and cooperation for the cause of environmental protection on the country wide basis. In this regard, the department has been rendering all out support to duly implement all the International accords and agreements related to the issue of environmental protection.

He further elaborated that though the present Caretaker federal and Provincial Governments has come into power for a very limited time period and with a limited mandate but even then it has been doing its best for the cause of environmental protection and climate change. We all hope that the upcoming federal and Provincial Governments that will be constitutional as the result of upcoming general elections will perform an active role for the cause of environmental protection and lessening the pollution that has been plaguing the lives of the citizens all over the country.

Moreover, the Minister Environment Jameel Yusuf has said that essentially he feels that Government is also under obligation to initiate a proper institutionalized mechanism to reward the organizations showing due care for the environment while at the same time penalizing those damaging the environment and become a cause of spreading pollution. No doubt, the issue of environment degradation has become a highly alarming one throughout the country with the relevant regulatory agencies virtually doing nothing to reverse this phenomenon.

Earlier the ACS Environment Mukhtar Soomro while sought the cooperation and assistance of the all stakeholders, industrialists, offered his full cooperation to them to implement the Environmental Laws and regulations under SEP Act and apprised the Pre- formation of Law- situation. He further said that to implement such Environmental Laws a comprehensive campaign of awareness included holding of seminars, workshops and motivate the stakeholders through media campaigns, offered his full support and assistance to further implement and interaction to the industrial sector and bodies through close coordination and participation/ involvement from all concerned in this regard.

DG Environment Naeem Mughal, President NFFEH Naeem Qureshi, Nadeem Arif (EMC) Shah Jehan Mirza (PPIB) Dr. Qaiser Waheed Ahmed Shabbar, CEO Garbage Beg Fiza Shakeel, Afia Salim, Khalid Engineer, Saqib Ejaz also spoke the conference. While the shields and awards distributed among representatives of leading industries, civil society stakeholders included media (Aslam Shah, Uneeba Waqar) and others.
