The Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh, Kashif Saeed Sheikh, said on Sunday that the Cholistan Canal project is more dangerous than the Kalabagh Dam, which the people of Sindh cannot accept.

“In the light of the statement made by the WAPDA Chairman regarding the canal, the PPP should clarify its position, he demanded while addressing a meeting of JI district leaders at the Quba Auditorium.

He termed the canal plan a bid to turn Sindh’s fertile lands barren while developing other province’s uninhabited lands. The people of Sindh are deeply concerned about the federal government’s move towards building canal, he added.

In accordance with the decisions made by the Sindh Peace Restoration Action Committee, a protest will be held on February 16 on the Indus Highway in Shikarpur against lawlessness and corruption.

He called for full participation from the public in the protest against this important national issue. Sheikh further criticized the decision to allow bureaucrats to be appointed as Vice Chancellors, calling it an act of enmity rather than fostering education.

He informed that on February 5, the Kashmir Solidarity Day will be observed across Sindh with full enthusiasm.

The provincial Amir further stated that the recent increase in salaries for each member of parliament was an injustice. Despite the skyrocketing inflation and worsening law and order situation, there was no reduction in the luxurious expenses and perks of the rulers and bureaucracy, he concluded.
