JKLF condemns continued detention of its chairman, leaders

Srinagar, March 06, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has strongly condemned the continued illegal detention of party Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and other leaders and activists languishing in different jails and police stations.

The JKLF in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the Muhammad Yasin Malik was in police custody from 22nd February 2019. It said that other party leaders and activists including Showkat Ahmed Bakhshi, Bashir Ahmed Boya, Gulzar Pahalwan, Nadeem Ahmad, Bashir Ahmad Kashmiri and Sheikh Nazir Ahmad were lodged in different jails and police stations.

The statement said that party leader, Zahoor Ahmad Butt, was recently slapped with draconian law, Public Safety Act (PSA), for the second consecutive time and was shifted to Islamabad sub-jail. Another JKLF leader, Ghulam Nabi Kashmiri whose PSA was quashed by high court recently has also been shifted to Islamabad jail on some new concocted charges, it added.

The JKLF while condemning these arbitrary arrests and police tactics to prolong the detention of these inmates said, the spree of arrests amounts to suppression of political dissent by force which is highly undemocratic, unethical and arbitrary.

Meanwhile, JKLF leader, Noor Muhammad Kalwal, paid rich tributes to martyred party members, Farooq Ahmad Dar of Sopore and Tahir Rasool Sofi of Baramulla. He said that a freedom movement nourished by the sacred blood of martyrs could not be defeated by any power.
